Moclinejo lies 20 kilometres from Malaga and 11 kilometres from the coast at Rincon de la Victoria, at an altitude of 450 metres. The village is located within the area of
Axarquia, on the scenic
Route of the Raisin, and has a population of 1,200. The villagers make unusual handicrafts which are sold locally.
Moclinejo is of Moorish origin although renovation and new construction has taken place. The church of Santa Maria was built in the 16th century and has beautiful Moorish arches in the belltower and roof. On Good Friday the villagers perform a passion play which attracts visitors from all over the region.
