Gaucin, a charming white-washed mountain village of Andalucia, Spain.
It's stunning natural surroundings and magnificent views make it a heaven for nature lovers and artists.
It's proximity to the airports of Gibraltar (1 hour's drive) and Malaga (1.5 hour's drive) make it easy to travel to from other parts of the world.
The village has a population of approximately 2,000. It lies about 600 metres above sea level in the Sierra del Hacho, dominated by the Castillo del Aguila (Eagle's Castle), originally a Roman stronghold, expanded by the Arabs.
It's festive calendar includes the celebrations in honour of "El Santo Nino" and of "San Juan de Dios", on the last Sunday in August. The Feria Mayor, also held in August and "el Toro de Cuerda", a very old tradition which consists of running a fighting bull tied with a rope through the streets of the town.
Getting there:
If you are coming from the Costa del Sol, turn off the AP-7 or N-340 expressway at Manilva onto the A-377, which leads straight to Gaucin. If the route is from Ronda, at the exit of that town take the A-369 road, which likewise leads to this locality.
