Andalusia Beaches
|

|
Andalusia is gifted with a golden 800 km coastline, so you can soak up the sun on the luxuriant sandy beaches and plunge in the waters of the two great oceans. Sunbathing generally becomes popular from late May until late September. At this time the Chiringuitos (beach bars) start to open. The sun beds are set out and the paddle rafts and jet skis are prepared to cater to your favourite pastimes. There is a concentration of tourist activity on the beaches during the school holidays and especially in July and August when many residents from Madrid and other cities in Spain arrive on the coast for their annual holiday. The Sun Coast stretches all along the Andalusian Mediterranean coast, from the Almeria Coast to Tariffa; it is a very popular attraction due to its beautiful beaches and colourful cities. The main city of the zone is Malaga, a few kilometers away from the well known tourist towns of Marbella and Torremolinos. | |

The Light Coast is the Atlantic coast that goes from Tariff to the Portuguese border, and their main characteristics are their beautiful beaches and dunes. You can start with Algeciras. From there a ferry can take you to Tanger, Ceuta and the Canary Islands.
Half an hour from Cadiz is Jerez, famous for its Sherry and the Bodegas where it’s produced are open to the public for visits. In the province of Huelva it is worth the trouble to visit the town of El Rocio, famous by the peregrination of the Virgen del Rocio; the Grotto of the Wonders in Aracena and the Coto de Donana National Park.
As the winters are not severely cold, sunbathing is sometimes possible even in the winter months. You will find the beach being frequented mostly by joggers, walkers and fishermen. There are days when the sky is blue and it’s not windy. It will be warm enough to sunbathe and you will have the beach to yourself
